What do I do when I get discouraged? How can I, as a parent of an addict find hope amidst the despair? I need to focus my thoughts on Jesus. Jesus IS my sustainer, and my hope.

As parents of addicts, being disappointed with our kid’s choices is inevitable. An addict WILL make bad choices, and we will hurt for them. But despairing in those disappointments is NOT a requirement. Charles Stanley says that “Disappointments are inevitable, but discouragement is a choice.” By keeping our thoughts on God and His promises we effectively disarm the discouraging moments in our lives.

Lamentations 3:22-26 “The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in Him!” The Lord is good to those who depend on Him, to those who search for Him. So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.”

I encourage you to stay close to the Father in thought and deed, and He will give you the hope and strength to make it through!

Continuing to pray for all those who carry this weight, please do the same for us.

Much love,

Quintin and Beth
